North Somerset Council operates pooling schemes to enable schools to work together to minimise the potential cost implications of teaching and support staff sickness.
The scheme covers all teachers (including headteachers) and support staff employed by the school with the exception of lunchtime supervisors. Any North Somerset school or academy can choose to cover only teachers or only support staff or all staff.
Schools must be in the scheme for a minimum of two-years before they are eligible to withdraw from the scheme. Claims can be made for any continuous sickness periods that exceed five school days. The scheme covers phased-returns where recommended by occupational health or GP.
