The Virtual School (VS) monitor the educational progress and achievement of children in care to North Somerset and have a focus of raising the achievement of these children and young people, both as individuals and as a cohort.
The role of the Virtual School Head Teacher is a statutory responsibility provided by the Local Authority and North Somerset has a named officer/ Head Teacher in this role, working the equivalent of a 0.5 FTE contract. The Virtual School Head Teacher has the strategic responsibility for the education, attainment and progress of all North Somerset’s Children Looked After (CLA) wherever they are educated. To support this role there is a Virtual School Prevention and Re-Engagement Support Worker, who assists in the monitoring of the CLA in terms of attendance and progress and all related issues.
The roles of Advisory Teachers within the Virtual School are not statutory and, therefore, the support, advice and guidance, which schools will have been accustomed to will only be available, henceforth, as part of a traded service.
